As you know, Adobe is developing Flash for some time 10.1 for Mac that will be completely rewritten in Cocoa 64-bit and recent tests in Safari is that Google Chrome has shown that the future version of the Flash Player will work even better than touching the HTML 5 58% more efficient.

Adobe should definitely continue this step to counter all the competitors and to avoid the extinction of this technology.

A troublingly high number of U.S. patients who are given angiograms to check for heart disease turn out not to have a significant problem, according to the latest study to suggest Americans get an excess of medical tests.

The researchers said the findings suggest doctors must do better in determining which patients should be subjected to the cost and risks of an angiogram. The test carries a small but real risk – less than 1 percent – of causing a stroke or heart attack, and also entails radiation exposure.

“We can do better. There is no doubt in my mind,” said Dr. Ralph Brindis of the University of California, San Francisco, one of the study’s authors.

Every year in the United States, more than a million people get an angiogram, in which a thin tube is inserted in the arm or groin and threaded up to the heart to check for blocked arteries that could lead to a heart attack. Dye is injected through the tube to make blockages show up on X-rays.

Angiograms are often given to patients who might be having a heart attack or have symptoms that suggest a serious blockage. They are also sometimes done on people who may have some less clear-cut symptoms, like shortness of breath, or no symptoms but some risky traits like high cholesterol and an abnormal result on another heart test. This group accounts for about 20 to 30 percent of angiogram cases.

In the study, nearly two-thirds of the patients in this second group were found to have no serious blockages.

The researchers could not establish why so few proved to have heart disease. But Dr. Harlan Krumholz, a Yale cardiologist and health-outcomes researcher unconnected to the study, said he thinks the problem arises because doctors are afraid of missing something, and also getting sued.

“We fear doing too little,” he said. “I think that we developed a culture where people feel that doing more and knowing more is always the proper course. What that does is sometimes lead us to overuse.”

Cost is also a concern. On average, Medicare pays about $1,400 for an outpatient angiogram and about $3,000 for the procedure in a hospital.

Researchers said more study is needed to sort out how to better select patients for an angiogram. For now, experts suggest patients in the category studied by the researchers question their doctors about the need for the test and the risks and alternatives.

To decide whether someone needs an angiogram, a doctor assesses a patient’s medical status and symptoms, and usually tries a noninvasive test, such as an ultrasound of the heart or having the patient run on a treadmill. It is this gatekeeper process that needs improvement, researchers suggested in Thursday’s issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

They sifted through records of nearly 2 million angiograms performed at 663 U.S. hospitals between 2004 and April 2008. The data came from a registry kept by the American College of Cardiology, which sponsored the study.

The researchers focused on about 400,000 patients who raised doctors’ suspicions but had no known heart disease and weren’t getting emergency heart treatment.

In those people, the test revealed no significant artery blockages 62 percent of the time. That doesn’t mean all those tests were unnecessary, but the rate is high enough to suggest doctors could do a better job of choosing who really needs the exam, researchers said.

The researchers suggested doctors should be less willing to order an angiogram for symptom-free patients, a group that made up 30 percent of the study sample.

Beyond that, further study might help doctors better gauge heart disease risk from a patient’s symptoms and characteristics like age and history of other diseases, said lead author Dr. Manesh Patel of Duke University.

Doctors could also use more research to help them choose the right noninvasive test, which might reduce the need for angiograms, he said.

Choices now include the treadmill test, injecting a radioactive solution to trace blood flow within the heart, doing an ultrasound to watch the walls of the heart moving, and doing a specialized CT scan that has recently shown promise.

“We still haven’t figured out, in all honesty, the best way of applying these technologies,” Brindis said.

In fact, one of the study’s co-authors – Dr. Pamela Douglas of Duke – just received a $32.5 million federal grant, the largest ever for heart imaging, to compare various heart imaging tests and see which ones do the most to prevent heart attacks, deaths and hospitalization.

Experts praised Patel’s study.

Some previous reports have found similar results, but the new study is so huge “we can now feel comfortable these aren’t isolated findings, this is for real,” said Dr. Michael Lauer, director of the division of cardiovascular sciences at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

Our AIM is to kill the Zombie, wild animals and even guards. We will have two players (one man and one woman) and about 10 levels to beat. From the screenshot we can already imagine the system of controls that will be faithful to all other similar titles with a joypad on the left and various virtual action buttons on the right.

Apple scored a double victory in the field of consumer loyalty, both in the category “Laptop” (ie laptops) and to that of the “Smartphone”.

The annual Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Award is awarded to the best brands capable of attracting the attention of customers, making them “faithful” to the company they represent. Since 1997, every year (and on the basis of 12-18 months), a group of experienced examiners analyze the relationships between customers and 518 marks (divided into 71 categories). Such examiners define a very detailed picture of what are the factors of each category that attract customers, establish a relationship of fidelity and scope of real profits. The profits of which we speak are not referring only to sales in the material sense, but also creates expectations that any company towards its customers every time he introduces a new product.

As you can see from official, Apple has won the award in two categories that relate closely and was ranked the 7th place in the category “netbooks” in spite of not producing, because, in my opinion, the MacBook Air is not to be consider a netbook, but the thin laptop from Apple is positioned better than Nokia’s 3G Booklet or netbook like the Sony Vaio P and W.

As for laptops, the MacBook has enabled the company to Cupertino to beat competition from Dell and all the brands that produce PCs. iPhone, however, was first for its category and its popularity has helped AT & T to excel in category “Wireless Phone Service”, despite the limitations expressed in the delivery of efficient services.

In terms of the search engines, tie between Microsoft and Biggar with the respective Bing and Google.

The expected iPad will be leading the way to a veritable flood of tablet alternative systems: according to ARM globally it will be launched over 50 models. Some have already been shown, many came only in China: the tide will rise at Computex in Taipei.

Even before arriving in stores Apple iPad has already started the pursuit by many other companies: in the coming months will come on the market more than 50 systems tablet. To reveal the impressive number is Roy Chen, head of ODM in the world for ARM, companies in the United Kingdom with its architecture and its patent is present in virtually almost all embedded processors in mobile and compact devices. In anticipation of the incoming tide of tablet ARM has recently expanded its exhibition space reserved for the Computex Taipei.

Chen said that the first tablet to be launched in the second quarter of 2010 by the major phone operators, while a larger number of tablets is planned for next quarter. During the presentation by the manager ARM also showed two new tablet. A model is called the Armadillo and integrates a Freescale processor based on ARM architecture: working with Android OS and uses the solution Quickboot made by Japan’s Ubiquitous to start the system virtually instantaneously.

The second tablet shown by the manager ARM is built by Compal, one of the largest manufacturers of notebook computers for global brands. Will be available with screens from 7 “and 10.1 inches with the possibility of having Android OS or Windows CE. It works with technology from Nvidia Tegra 2, again based on ARM: Compal tablet can connect to HDTV via HDMI port integrated .

True love can take many forms. In this case, it has taken the form of a Korean man falling in love with, and eventually marrying, a large pillow with a picture of a woman on it.

Lee Jin-gyu fell for his ‘dakimakura’ – a kind of large, huggable pillow from Japan, often with a picture of a popular anime character printed on the side.

In Lee’s case, his beloved pillow has an image of Fate Testarossa, from the ‘magical girl’ anime series Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha.
Now the 28-year-old otaku (a Japanese term that roughly translates to somewhere between ‘obsessive’ and ‘nerd’) has wed the pillow in a special ceremony, after fitting it out with a wedding dress for the service in front of a local priest. Their nuptials were eagerly chronicled by the local media.

‘He is completely obsessed with this pillow and takes it everywhere,’ said one friend.

‘They go out to the park or the funfair where it will go on all the rides with him. Then when he goes out to eat he takes it with him and it gets its own seat and its own meal,’ they added.

The pillow marriage is not the first similarly-themed unusual marriage in recent times – it comes after a Japanese otaku married his virtual girlfriend Nene Anegasaki, a character who only exists in the Nintendo DS game Love Plus, last November.

The digital notation devices, which communicate wirelessly with hospital records through a BlackBerry smartphone, enable nurses and midwives in Portsmouth to store patient information remotely and securely.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust says it believes its PaperIQ digi-pens save time, as well as money, by halving the amount of data entry.

The pens work by digitally reading and recording the nurses’ handwriting.

Their notes are transmitted through Bluetooth to a BlackBerry smartphone and are forwarded automatically to the patient records system.

Richard Sargent, ICT specialist at the Trust, said: ‘The traditional consultation process for the Trust was very paper intensive and required midwives and nurses to record their activities on paper forms when they visited patients’ homes.

‘They then had to type up the same details back at the office as the maternity records booklet stays with the mother throughout the term of her pregnancy and post-natal care period.’

The clever pens also act as a safety device for lone nurses working in risky situations. By striking a code at the top of their notepads the pens switch to an audio record mode, allowing police to monitor their conversations.

Mr Sargent said the pens have saved the time of five full-time midwives and – after a year’s usage – have already paid for themselves.

He added: ‘We are eliminating the double entry of information as digital notes are taken at the episode of care with the mother and then immediately and securely transferred to the patient record system.

‘This means that no patient identifiable information is carried with the midwife whilst they are in the community, which protects against information getting mislaid, lost or stolen.’

Currently 130 midwives, across four hospitals, are using the digi-pens.

The Trust is looking to roll them out to other departments, starting with a trial at the Queen Alexandra accident and emergency department.

The US architect used 218,792 cards on this giant replica of China’s Venetian Macau hotel – earning himself a Guinness World Record. His effort, now on show in the real hotel, weighs 44st and is held together without the aid of glue or tape.

If laid tip-to-tip, the cards would stretch more than 10.5 miles. Bryan, 34, spent 44 painstaking days building the model on Macau’s Cotai Strip, China’s answer to Las Vegas.

He said: “This has been my most ambitious project yet. It’s been like a real construction.”

There are myriad RSS readers for the iPhone, but there’s one app we use for storing and reading text on the Web that we’ve kept using even as others have come and gone.

GRAB IT: Instapaper (free, $4.99 for Pro version) is a superbly simple app that is a must-have for anyone who uses their iPhone to read blogs, news articles, essays and any other form of text; in fact, we’ve long considered it one of the most useful apps in all of the iTunes Store.

The app – especially the Pro edition – has plenty of handy tools for reading Web content, including a Safari-like pinch to zoom text and images, easy sharing via e-mail and Twitter, and even a gimmicky (but still kinda neat) tilt-to-scroll function. But it’s how you get the text into the app that makes it so attractive.

Naturally, you can easily add RSS subscriptions to your favorite sites from inside the app, but the feature you’ll come back to, time and again, is the ability to add content to Instapaper directly from your browser. By adding a JavaScript-powered bookmark to your mobile Safari browser on your iPhone – or the browser on your home computer, your work desktop or any other device you use to surf – you can add Web pages to your free Instapaper account online, where they’ll be reformatted, stored and automatically downloaded to your phone the next time you open the app.

Say you come across a blog item on the Web that you want to save for later. Or you’re halfway through a long story on your home computer and want to take the rest with you when you leave. Click your Instapaper bookmark and, just like that, you’re all set to finish reading it on the go. [iTunes link]

SKIP IT: How Long Can You Tap It? (free): We recently took a brutally long flight to Thailand and decided to crowdsource on Twitter, asking friends and followers to suggest iPhone time-wasters for the trip. One of our buddies, a real wise guy, suggested this app, which times how long you can quickly tap a big red button in the center of your iPhone. The record, apparently, is more than 4 hours. We made it to 6.7 seconds. [iTunes link]
